We can go ahead and answer that title question with a single word: No. That being said, we have all been there. You had a long day at the office, you have a long night ahead at home, and to make matters worse, you’ve got miles of backed-up traffic to deal with. And – look at that – your gas light just came on. The very last thing you feel like doing is stopping for gas, so you decide to skip it and drive the rest of the way home on empty. But is this a good idea? We’re here to tell you, again, that it probably isn’t.
Imagine if skipping a fill-up led to finding yourself stranded on the side of the road the next day, waiting for a tow truck or a friend to bring you a gas can. Not only is this inconvenient and embarrassing, it is almost assured to happen if you skip a fill-up for too long. Rather than dealing with all that, why not just take the 10 minutes and get some gas?
In your gas tank and fuel line, your fuel pump governs the moving of gas to your engine. It is designed to be submerged in fuel at all times, and when you drive on empty, the fuel pump can misfire and eventually, that will lead to expensive repairs. Instead of ruining your European vehicle’s fuel line, just get gas when the car alerts you it is time.
If you suspect you’ve damaged your fuel line by chronic driving on empty, our team would be happy to take a look and let you know if there is damage. And anything else your European vehicle might need, we are here to help. But do us a favor – stop for gas when it is time and save yourself the headache.
